Der verhängnisvolle Unterschied (The fatal difference)
Against the background of the moral climate that prescribes respect for differences between cultures and between humans, thinking in terms of differences is often taken as a self-evident, basic characteristic of experience and good theories. I believe, however, that a “pure” theory of differences, which operates without the categories of “identity” and “ground”, cannot be devised, and that there are other than binary distinctions. A theory restricted to “binary distinctions” is too limited and should be supplemented.
